“I’m Dorothy!”
“No, I’M Dorothy!”
“Nuh-uh! I’m Dorothy!”
“Fine, you be Dorothy. I’m Sofia.”
That would be what it would sound like if my friend Mikey and I get to visit the Golden Girls-themed cafe rumored to be opening in Manhattan. Actually, I’m pretty sure that’s what every conversation at every table in such a cafe would sound like. And everyone would have that one friend who would say “Who do I get to be?” and everyone else at the table would simultaneously say “Rose.” In my case, it would be my friend Sherry.
But don't worry. She’s accepted her Rose-ness and we love her for it.
Annnnnyway.
The real story is that Michael J. LaRue, who was the best friend of the late Rue “Blanche Devereaux” McClanahan, is planning to open an eatery featuring the star’s memorabilia. LaRue has apparently also gotten permission from the Walt Disney Company to make Golden Girls merchandise to sell at the cafe.
You all know what that means, right? Matching “Thank you for being a friend” t-shirts and “Picture it! Sicily, 1932!” tote bags for everyone! Wheeee! Oh, and cheesecake. So much cheesecake!
The restaurant is supposed to open in September. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’ll be grabbing my own personal Golden Girls and planning a road trip to NYC!
